PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Greetings Students and Parents/Guardians of Watson Elementary School, The Home of the Mighty Eagles!
Welcome and thank you for visiting our website to learn more about our school. We are so excited about all of the positive experiences that have occurred during this school year. Our staff is constantly working hard to be more culturally responsive as we prepare engaging and rewarding learning experiences for all students.
We consider it a privilege to work with our children every day to help them be their very best selves. It is our belief that each and every student has a gift to make a positive impact on our community and world and we work hard to unlock their maximum potential. We have high expectations of our students, and we hold ourselves to the highest of standards to help all Watson Elementary students to learn and develop into well-versed citizens and critical thinkers. Watson Elementary School students will be taught to view themselves as learners and to think about what it looks like to be a good learner and thinker.
Talk with your children about our school’s acronym, S.O.A.R., which stands for Safety, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect, which are aligned with our PBIS-Positive Behavior Intervention Supports. PBIS is our schoolwide behavior system of universal expectations. The philosophy of this initiative is that by holding students accountable for following the specified expectations that are taught at the beginning and practiced throughout the school year, they will be rewarded for positive behavior. Students will begin to build intrinsic motivation to behave in a positive way which will help create a positive learning environment in all areas of the school. To help your children be successful in elementary school, help them understand what is required of them to be a good learner both inside and outside of the classroom. Watson Elementary is determined to develop leadership, social and emotional skills, as well as academic skills to prepare our students for success not only in elementary school, but also in middle school, high school, career, relationships, and life-long learning.
Please continue to visit our website for updates throughout the year. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can reach me at 501-447-6800/6802. We invite you to be our partner in our work. We look forward to working with families to accomplish great things for our students!
