    The Tamara Nabors Parent Center

The Parent Center has been renamed in order to honor a beloved staff member that passed away. Some of the many resources we offer are: books for check out, books with tapes, books to keep, parenting resource books, magazine, student's supplies, videos, school texts, computer access, and parent resources. It is the goal of Chicot Primary and ECC staff to work together with parents and members of the community to provide a quality educational experience for all students. There will be many opportunities for parents to be involved in their child's school experience and we look forward to working with each and every one. Come see what's in the Parent Center!

    Reading Teachers

Reading interventionists work extensively with students to teach strategies and help students improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies. Interventionists work with the teacher to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child. Reading Intervention Teachers specialize in providing second and third tier intervention for students.

    Gifted & Talented Education

The Gifted and Talented Program provides an educational environment for identified GT students that allows them to develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Outstanding achievement or the potential for outstanding achievement of each student is evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment, and creative ability. Students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade attend G/T weekly. Identified students in third through fifth grade receive G/T services weekly.

    School Supplies

The Little Rock Junior League has donated school supplies to Chicot Primary School and the Early Childhood Center for your children to use in the classroom. There are still many items needed. Please contact your child's teacher for more information.

    History

Originally a part of the Pulaski County Special School District, Chicot Elementary was built in 1973 and is named after the street/neighborhood in Southwest Little Rock in which it is located.  In 1982, a new wing was added to the building as Chicot became the home to students with moderate to severe disabilities.  The Little Rock School District annexed Chicot from Pulaski County in 1987.  The school was nearly destroyed by a fire on October 13, 1994.  Ish Elementary served as a temporary home for students and staff.  The school was rebuilt and the restored Chicot Elementary opened in 1995.  In August 2007, Chicot and Watson Elementary schools combined attendance zones.  Chicot restructured as a primary school serving Kindergarten through 2nd grade as well opening the Chicot Early Childhood Center to expand the district's pre-K program into the Southwest Little Rock area.  In 2016, Chicot and Watson rezoned once more and now Chicot educates early childhood (3 years & up) through 5th grade.
