J.A. Fair High School was established in 1981, with construction completed and doors open to students in August 1982. The school was named for James Augustus Fair, an educator, who spent his career as a biology teacher, administrator and after retirement served on the Pulaski County School Board.
From its opening in 1982 through June 1987, FHS served as a junior/senior high school (grades 7-12) for the Pulaski County Special School District. In August 1987, FHS opened as a senior high school for the Little Rock School District, one of 14 schools annexed to enhance desegregation efforts. FHS became a magnet school in the fall of 2000. With construction completed in the spring of 2004, the school added three new state-of-the-art labs for the academy programs, along with two new classrooms, a new band room, and an expanded cafeteria.JA Fair K8 Preparatory School will open in August of 2021. Under the direction of Ms. Melinda Modica, principal, JA Fair will integrate the Leader in Me vision and incorporate Project Lead the Way (PLTW) as exciting new programs that students will have multiple opportunities to achieve.
The school mascot is the War Eagle. School colors are gray, navy blue, and lime green. Plenty of "War Eagles Spirit" abounds among faculty and staff.
