EAST - Education Accelerated by Service and Technology

The goal of the EAST Initiative - EAST is education accelerated by service and technology. We inspire change. We transform schools and communities by empowering people with technology, by encouraging critical thinking and creative problem-solving, and by engaging them in positive, real-world experiences. We advocate lifelong learning and community service. Through EAST, participants become positive agents of change to improve the world around them.

EAST at MLK is honored to be one of 3 LRSD elementary schools with an EAST program. It was established in 2006.  We are happy and excited to announce that we received a 2020 EAST Upgrade Grant from the EAST Initiative. This has granted us the opportunity to purchase new resources to build our program. The students now have access to different computer coding kits, VR equipment, and 3D printing, just to name a few.

Students train on 21st century technology with the emphasis on how they can help the community. This program emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and advanced skills.
