UNDERSTANDING AND WORKING WITH LANGUAGE MINORITY FAMILIES
The Little Rock School District is experiencing increasing numbers of families moving here from other countries and locations. Oftentimes newcomers to our schools are in a state of cultural and linguistic shock. They, and their families, enter new systems where they do not speak the language and may not have the skills or the wherewithal to seek appropriate assistance. While the Little Rock School District already provides excellent English as a Second Language training for our teachers, these children and their families often have needs that reach beyond the classroom. One of our goals is to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our families. Click on the links below for guidance and suggestions as to how we might better understand their needs and accommodate them.
